The Commissioner of Health Training Institutions at the Ministry of Education and Sports, Dr. Safina Musene, said that the course has been the most preferred field of nursing by students.
It has been the most preferred field of nursing attracting over 300 students annually across the country. Both extension and direct students.
Dr Safina Musene, the commissioner of Health Training Institutions at the Ministry of Education and Sports says despite the popularity of the course among students, employers find it irrelevant. Musene says since the new Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) policy is driven by the world of work or demand of employers the education ministry found it redundant ..by new vision.
This decision was reached despite increased demand for comprehensive nursing by NGO'S and European countries like England which recently did an employee exchange demanding mostly comprehensive nurses. Cure clinic also passed an advert demanding atotal sum of fifteen comprehensive nurses.
We can not tell what the future holds but the world has lost the most demanding workforce in the health system.
